Super interesting! I thought I understood the symbols pretty quickly but I found myself having to reconsider them when I looked at how they played out.

I had a fantastic time with this one! I quite enjoy these kind of connectivity deductions and this one had so many of them jam-packed in there. Very cute white/black duality theme and communication of the puzzle rules.
I misunderstood something early on when trying to figure out the rules and then dug myself into a hole trying to work with that for a while, but once I figured out all the rules it was really tight and fun!
Great puzzle! Found it easiest to solve in Inkscape, where I could copy-paste things around, and easily remove old bits if I realized I'd made a mistake.

wow! i’ve solved the puzzle in a way that satisfies all my interpretations. my biggest complaint is that it’s not clear enough exactly what the rules are, but if my interpretations are correct then the puzzle is really well made! what’s most surprising to me is that v bayl unir gjb pryyf abg ivfvgrq, naq vg qbrfag frrz yvxr vg’f cbffvoyr gb ivfvg gurz.
there are a bunch of lovely deductions resulting from the (assumed) rules. even without the confidence it was still very satisfying to come to a solution! very nice

Do I have to fill all the squares?
In instructionless puzzles, there is usually an implied condition that gur fbyhgvba vf havdhr tvira gur bgure ehyrf. You should be able to deduce whether you need to fill in the squares or not based on this.
not always, sometimes the condition is just "these are solvable and these are not", as is used in lok.
